Lincoln Nona NAIDOC Apprentice of the Year 2017

Probuild NT is excited to announce that over the weekend, Lincoln Nona a Probuild NT apprentice was awarded Top End NAIDOC Apprentice of the Year 2017.

Congratulations to Lincoln Nona – Top End NAIDOC Apprentice of the Year 2017!

Lincoln was initially engaged as an entry level trainee during the construction of the Northern Territory Open Education Centre through IE Project, where he completed a Certificate II in Construction.

Two training programs were run on site with Lincoln taking part in the first of these. Recognising his passion, dedication and a commitment to work hard, he was selected to undertake a full time Apprentice position with Probuild NT in June 2016.

Lincoln was one of six Apprentices selected and has been a stand out with his ongoing commitment to learn with a strong work ethic. In 2017, Lincoln graduated to his second year Apprenticeship, assisted through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), demonstrating his focus and commitment to his career development.

Lincoln was selected to work with the Department of Education to feature in their Skills Mastery Project. The project is aimed to engage remote Indigenous students undertaking VET study to further their knowledge of the NT industry expectations. He has agreed to be interviewed in a short video where he explains his personal experiences as an Apprentice in the construction industry.

By showcasing his skills and understanding to other Indigenous individuals, Lincoln is helping to promote the construction industry and VET as a career path for other Indigenous people and the broader Australian population.

Lincoln’s short term goal is to complete his Certificate III, and to become a full time, fully qualified Carpenter. His passion lies in the construction industry and his vision, and long-term goal is to climb the ranks to become a future leader of Probuild NT. As the business continues to expand, Probuild NT needs passionate and dedicated individuals that are willing to learn, like Lincoln, to take on new responsibilities and grow with the business.

Probuild NT is proud to support Lincoln’s goals and continue to provide him with training and support, and mentor him on industry best practices and leadership qualities, which he eagerly learns and applies in his day-to-day work.
